Understanding Car Issues

When I began thinking more seriously about car issues, it occurred to me that there were a few things I needed to do if I wanted to make things easier for myself in the long run. For starters, I began taking my car in for regular auto service, which really helped out. It was really interesting to see how many different things had to be fixed every time I went in, but when my car didn't have as many problems, I could tell that it was really paying off. This website is all about understanding and preventing car problems by making better choices.

3 Tips For Taking Care Of The Air Suspension On Your Vehicle

by Micheal Barrett

If you have a vehicle that is equipped with air suspension, such as a Land Rover, there are specific things you can do to help take care of and maintain the air suspension system on your vehicle.

Visually Check Your System

It is a good idea to check your air suspension system every once in a while. If you are going to pull a heavy load with your vehicle, you should always check the air suspension to make sure that it is up to the task. You should also check the suspension, as well as other important components on your vehicle, before going out of town on a large trip.

When you visually inspect your system, keep an eye out for any damaged or loose connections within your air suspension system. If you spot any connections that are damaged or lose, you are going to want to address those connections before using your vehicle again. Also, make sure that the air springs are clean; the build-up of debris can have a negative impact on their performance.

Check The Air Pressure

You should also check the air pressure on your springs. Your vehicle's owner's manual should let you know the pressure level that your air springs should be kept at. Your owner's manual will have the most accurate information.  If the pressure in your springs are below the recommended level, you are going to want to inflate the springs. If the pressure is above the recommended level, let a little pressure out of your springs.

For the best overall performance, try to keep your springs at the recommend air pressure level for your vehicle and set-up.

Make Sure Lines Are Secured

Finally, make sure that the lines on the air suspension system are secured. If any are hanging down, you can use zip ties to secure the lines so they are not dragging until you are able to get your vehicle to your local auto body shop. Make sure as well that all the lines are connected all the way to both the springs and the air compressor on your vehicle.

If your vehicle has an air suspension system, learn how to check the air pressure and lines. Knowing how to do this will allow you to keep an eye on your air suspension system, and will let you know when to get service. If you need help learning how to take care of your air suspension system, see if your local auto body shop can show you how to do these maintenance tasks.
