Understanding Car Issues

When I began thinking more seriously about car issues, it occurred to me that there were a few things I needed to do if I wanted to make things easier for myself in the long run. For starters, I began taking my car in for regular auto service, which really helped out. It was really interesting to see how many different things had to be fixed every time I went in, but when my car didn't have as many problems, I could tell that it was really paying off. This website is all about understanding and preventing car problems by making better choices.

Signs A Clutch Needs Repairs

by Micheal Barrett

Getting a vehicle to a clutch repair shop in a timely manner is a good way to keep it operating efficiently. You may also avoid larger repair bills down the road by making sure the engine and transmission aren't struggling due to a damaged clutch. Some aging is expected from every system, but there always comes a point where clutch repair has to be done. Let's look at four of the biggest signs your ride's clutch needs to be fixed.

The Pedal Feels Wrong

There are a number of indications that first show up in the pedal. When you press the clutch pedal, you might find that it feels spongy or soft. Conversely, other clutch issues may manifest as a pedal sticking. Vibrating pedals are also a common sign of problems.

Listening for Trouble

Squeaking, squealing, or rumbling sounds may be signs of clutch problems. Bear in mind that transmission issues may have to be ruled out. This can be done by noting how well the engine runs ones it is in each gear. If you're able to get into gear, even if it takes some effort or time, then you're probably dealing with clutch problems and not transmission issues.

Shifting Difficulty

When a clutch is in top condition, it should provide a level of responsiveness that even the best automatic transmission system cannot deliver. As a clutch wears out, though, it will take longer for gears to activate. You may also notice a loss of acceleration as you move between gears, often felt as a jerk or a drop in power as you move through the different gears. In the worst cases, a clutch may take up to two seconds to provide a response.

Smells

As a clutch wears out, there will be heat caused by the increased friction in the assembly. In some cases, smoke may come out of the box as debris is destroyed by shifting activities.

Getting to a Clutch Repair Shop

Operating your vehicle in difficult conditions is not advised once the clutch has clearly begun to fail. This means don't subject it to stop-and-go traffic or hauling heavy loads or trailers. Likewise, try not to operate your ride more than necessary at highway speeds. If you have any doubts about whether the vehicle can make it to a shop or a place like King's Transmission Seattle, it's best to either tow it yourself or get a professional hauler to assist you.
