Understanding Car Issues

When I began thinking more seriously about car issues, it occurred to me that there were a few things I needed to do if I wanted to make things easier for myself in the long run. For starters, I began taking my car in for regular auto service, which really helped out. It was really interesting to see how many different things had to be fixed every time I went in, but when my car didn't have as many problems, I could tell that it was really paying off. This website is all about understanding and preventing car problems by making better choices.

How To Tell If Your Brakes Need An Early Service

by Micheal Barrett

Your brakes are arguably the most important feature on your car to ensure that you get where you are going safely, and it is very important that you always heed any warning signs that they might give off. The problem is that so many people simply do not know what these warning signs are, which is of course no fault of their own. Unless you are well versed in car mechanics it is very difficult to know what is a warning sign and what is simply the normal creaks and rattling of your car. Here are a few signs that you should be on the lookout for so that you can take care of your brakes.

Whining Noise

Whenever you hear a high-pitched whining noise emanating from your car it often will be coming from your brakes. There could be a bunch of reasons, from them being quite old to a part getting worn down, but no matter what the cause you need to ensure it gets looked at as fast as you can. This is not an issue that will get better on its own, it requires the expert analysis of an auto brake mechanic who can replace the components that are past their used-by date.

Sickly Sweet Smell

While there are many fluids in your car, from the air conditioning coolant to the gas itself, nothing smells quite as sweet as brake fluid. Brake fluid will give off a very unique and quite sweet smell that will be instantly recognizable to those who have smelt it before. If you have never smelled this aroma, then any kind of sweet smell coming from your car should be a red flag that there could be a leak in your braking system that is putting your car at risk.

Brakes Getting Bumpy

If, when you put your foot on the brake, there is any kind of tangible feedback that feels jumpy or bouncy at all then you might want to get your brakes looked at. There shouldn't be any kind of real response from your car brakes unless you hit them very hard or you run over something. Other than that, they should always feel quite smooth and if they don't then something is causing them to move out of position and that needs to be addressed before you get back on the road again.
